A New Hope

A new hope might be a slight exaggeration, but it's Christmas day which means we are very close to turning the 0 at the end of 2010 to 1 and I really really need to get back to my blogging. Why? because so many interesting things are happening to me and I need a way of keeping track of everything.

So here is to a new hope that I will keep up my blogging at the very least in this coming year.

I will make this post short but let me just say what the most interesting thing that has happened to me is: it is a tiny life inside me that this morning has been kicking me silly. I wonder if I am blue on the inside! A little teeny weeny girl whom I can't wait to meet! and I know she is going to change my life as I know it. I just hope that she is gentle with me :-)

Spirit

On Jan 26th, 2274 Mars days into the mission, NASA declared Spirit a "stationary research station" , expected to stay operational for several more months until a dust buildup on its solar panels forces a final shutdown.

This is such a sad cartoon. It reminds me of Laika, the first dog that was sent into space. From wiki: "Laika died four days after launch from overheating, possibly due to a failure of the central R-7 sustainer to separate from the payload. The true cause and time of her death was not made public until 2002; instead, it was widely reported that she died when her oxygen ran out, or (as the Soviets initially insisted) she was euthanised prior to oxygen depletion. "

random

Here are some random thoughts and things I have been doing:

- we need to get a dining set, so I have been searching Craig's List. How did I get pulled into Craig's List for the first time? because the first night I had a quick look at it (just to see what's going on) I saw the perfect table and chair and for a great price. I emailed them a couple of times and got no reply. Alas I have been waiting for a similar deal to pop up ever since.
However I am starting to lose patience as I see the same stuff (which I am not interested in) be re-listed over and over and over again.

- was frustrated by what I perceive as a woman's jealousy by my friendship with her husband (who is a good friend of mine). Of course note the word "perceive" because it can always be my imagination and she might just not like me as person... what!! never! :-P

- had a fabulous time this weekend catching up with a high school friend of mine (and his fiance) whom I hadn't seen in more than 10 years. Lovely guy. We drank and were merry. It seems I can get drunk very fast. I believe I had 1.5 glasses of white wine and I was happy and tipsy. Maybe it was superwine with super alcohol level.

In April, one of my loveliest friends is coming a-visiting and I am oh so very excited. We are also planning on going to Baja, Mexico with a tour group on a 9-day adventure and man oh man, the excitement is building. We have to book the ticket etc but we have a new adventure to look forward to!

Here is the planned bus tour: (ignore the 15-day addition)

Obsessed anyone?

I have developed an obsession: Apple and the upcoming keynote. Are they or are they not? Is it or is it not?

I need to know what's going on, what they are producing, how I am going to be living my life vicariously through others. Please Mr Jobs, won't you tell me how?
Since no one tells me anything, I scan macrumors.com at least once a day, read fakesteve and go through the tech news of google.
And it seems I am not the only one, because last time I checked (admittedly a couple of days ago) the top 6 tech news of the day were Apple, Apple, Apple.
Please Mr Jobs, won't you tell us all how to be interfacing our lives with technology?
So yes I am slightly obsessed with this new product that seems to be a cloud of gossip and not one solid fact. But oh that cloud is so shiny and sparkly.
Tell me, are you obsessed? ;-)

Catching up and The Audition

There is a bunch of news bits over the last couple of weeks that I wanted to share with everyone (all 2.5 people who read the blog :-P) I will post them as time and memory permit.

About 10 days ago, one of the nights when I came home late and brain dead and turned the TV on and sat in front of it like a zombie, I was nicely surprised by a fabulous documentary called The Audition on PBS that...
"looks at the intense pressures young opera singers face as they struggle to succeed in one of the most difficult professions in the performing arts. The feature-length documentary takes you behind the scenes at the Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions, where each year thousands of hopefuls compete for a cash prize, the chance to sing on the Met stage–and the opportunity to launch a major operatic career."

It was like a grown up, matured, interesting and talented American Idol (no offense intended since I enjoy watching AI :-). The voices were absolutely heavenly and the process of performing at the level of the MET was fascinating. If you like opera voices and want to learn how technical these performances are and how many different aspects there are to a performance, well you'll just have to watch this documentary :-)

Oh and the saddest part of all was the ending credits where one of the contestants who we learn about and learn to love is said to have passed away after a one year fight against cancer. That was just really sad. It always surprises me when any life but especially one with so much talent and vivacity and joy, is extinguished.

It's time...

... to once again open the two-way portal into the blogosphere. My theory is that updating my blog will allow me some leeway in emailing (or more to the point) not emailing.

You see I've been pretty darn busy at work the last couple of weeks with a bunch of deliverables and my emailing dropped down to abysmal numbers. New lows I tells you. I had disappeared.
Meanwhile I was checking other people's blogs to see what was going on with them. I checked out FB once in a while, saw statuses and photos, saw little new-borns become bigger and cuter and like sand through the hour glass... ahem. So I felt kind of up to date but they thought I had "unfriended" them (to quote a lovely friend! :-D
So here I am.
Blogging.
so... wassup!
